ASGNA 2007
|
Welcome! The ASGNA and IMS have teamed-up to build this website. We would like to hear your thoughts! Please e-mail your ideas and suggestions for this website to a board member. President's Message - March 2007This year is starting off fast and furious! We had our first educational meeting on January 31st at North Valley Endoscopy Center. It was a great success and we thank Liz Weaver and her staff for their time and efforts in organizing the event. The Board is committed again this year to promoting Colon Cancer Awareness. We would like to hear about your ideas for educating the public regarding this preventable disease. Please share with a Board member any sites and speakers for community educational events. Everyday we see the tragic consequences of this disease and I hope you will take advantage of every opportunity to educate those around you. March is Colon Cancer Awareness MonthColorectal cancer rates have been decreasing in recent years due to education and screening colonoscopies. Let's continue educating to help continue the rate decrease. The Buddy Bracelet has been made to help make the community more aware of the importance of a screening colonoscopy & passing this message on to a family member or friend. The Buddy Bracelet and its message "Wear It, Share It, Because You Care!" reminds an individual to get screened for colorectal cancer and serves as the main outreach activity for National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. The Buddy Bracelet was first conceived by Mary Bakke of Advocates for Colorectal Cancer, a colorectal cancer survivor group in Minneapolis, Minn. The Buddy Bracelet should be worn with pride to remind you to get screened for colorectal cancer. After you get screened for colorectal cancer, you can give your Buddy Bracelet to a family member, friend or colleague, along with the powerful message: Talk to your health care professional about colorectal cancer. Your bracelet will then be passed along from that person to another and another - creating a chain reaction that could save thousands of lives. All across the country, over 400,000 people just like you are spreading the word that colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable and beatable! Remember: Wear it. Share it. ASGNA will be mailing Buddy Bracelets to facilities. So please contact or e-mail a Board member with your facilities name & address along with a contact person. March 28, 2007GI Nurse Day – Dinner & Educational Meeting.
