NTSGNA Region 55 - April 2009

North Texas SGNA's membership reached 156 in 2008, higher that our recent average. Our January meeting featured Patty Sturt speaking on Safe Sedation: Innovation in Nurse / GI Team Delivered Sedation sponsored by Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. At that meeting, we also encouraged members to vote online or by ballot. We celebrated GI Nurses and Associates Day with a dinner and presentation at La Duni Restaurant sponsored by UCB. The presentation was The Impact of IBD from the Perspective of the Patient, Physician and Nurse. It included a panel discussion that the attendees found very informative. The 2nd Annual Lone Star Round-up was held on November 15-16 at the Gaylord resort and Conference Center in Grapevine, Texas and offered 9.75 contact hours. This also included our Annual business meeting and election of officers. We had 141 attendees, 114-nurses and 27 techs. Topics included colon cancer screening, GI Cancers, Evidence based Practice, Geonomics, Biologics for IBD by expert presenters such as Kathy Baker, Gastroenterology Nursing editor, Marilee Schmelzer, Director of Research, Randy Brinson, and David Hambrick. We were fortunate to have 24 vendors participate with sponsorship and exhibit booths. We were fortunate to be at the Gaylord at this time of the year to participate in numerous holiday events, such as the Christmas light celebration and the annual ICE exhibit.
