NTSGNA Region 55 - April 2009North Texas SGNA's membership reached 156 in 2008, higher that our recent average. Our January meeting featured Patty Sturt speaking on Safe Sedation: Innovation in Nurse / GI Team Delivered Sedation sponsored by Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. At that meeting, we also encouraged members to vote online or by ballot. We celebrated GI Nurses and Associates Day with a dinner and presentation at La Duni Restaurant sponsored by UCB. The presentation was The Impact of IBD from the Perspective of the Patient, Physician and Nurse. It included a panel discussion that the attendees found very informative. The 2nd Annual Lone Star Round-up was held on November 15-16 at the Gaylord resort and Conference Center in Grapevine, Texas and offered 9.75 contact hours. This also included our Annual business meeting and election of officers. We had 141 attendees, 114-nurses and 27 techs. Topics included colon cancer screening, GI Cancers, Evidence based Practice, Geonomics, Biologics for IBD by expert presenters such as Kathy Baker, Gastroenterology Nursing editor, Marilee Schmelzer, Director of Research, Randy Brinson, and David Hambrick. We were fortunate to have 24 vendors participate with sponsorship and exhibit booths. We were fortunate to be at the Gaylord at this time of the year to participate in numerous holiday events, such as the Christmas light celebration and the annual ICE exhibit. Welcome to the NT SGNA Website!I sincerely want to thank you for visiting the NT SGNA Region 55. With the diverse group of officer leadership, this year will continue to prove our commitment in "raising the bar" with our educational activities and events for our members. Last year we moved the region to a higher level with the awesome Lonestar Roundup held at the Gaylord Resort in Grapevine, Tx. This was our first attempt at a multi-regional educational event and we will be repeating it again this August. In the planning stage right now, we will celebrate GI Nurse's Day in March. My goal as president is to lead our officers to reach out and continue to find new ways to increase our membership and offer excellent educational support to our members. I want to provide excitement and enthusiasm among the membership. I hope to see our dinner meetings full to capacity, with standing room only. We would like Region 55 to be in the race for national recognition some day as "Region of the Year." This is within our reach. If you have a passion and would like to get involved, even in a small way, please contact myself. Anyone can help. All ideas are welcomed and we would love to have you. We will keep our momentum moving towards excellency. Sincerely, Donna Ernst, NT SGNA President Endoscopy Extravaganza
Welcome! The greatest nurses and associates in the world seem to have little in common. They differ in age, race, and sex. They focus on different goals and use different style in their daily practice. But above all else, they are committed to the care and improvement of human life. This year the North Texas SGNA leadership team is showing the ability to move from good to great. With all differences in our daily practice and life, we had a few questions in mind; do we have the ability to grow? Do we belong here in leadership position? How can we advance our organization to achieve Excellency? Thanks to the hard work of our enthusiastic officers; this year are well on our way with our efforts to bring out the ability to move from good to great and go for the gold. We have representation across the board from different areas of Endoscopy field. We want the organization to be more successful in the next generation. Because enthusiasm is contagious, we hope members will join the officers as volunteers to bring new ideas to the organization. If you have a set of skills or passion, then help us to make North Texas SGNA better for everyone. 2007 is a year to "Shine" and keep the momentum building. Shari Mirazei RN, BSN
